Shameful Admissions

  • I never understood why n0 = 1; this has always felt like a fundamental character flaw.
  • I empathize with “otherkin,” and am very fortunate not to have heard of the phenomenon when I was a sad, lonely 14-year-old.
  • My comfort movies include Anne of Green Gables, Love Actually, and Newsies. Edit: Also Studio Ghibli’s “Whispers of the Heart,” which I can’t believe I forgot to list first.
  • I watched the first two episodes of Fooly Cooly and failed to see genius where so many others seem to.
  • One of my greatest joys in life is a good role-playing game session.
  • I don’t know enough about any given medium to be a really effective snob about it.

    Axioms:
    1. na * nb = n(a+b)
    2. n-1 = 1/n
    3. n1 = n

    Derivation:
    4. n0= n(-1 + 1)
    5. n(-1 + 1) = n-1 * n1 [1]
    6. n-1 * n1 = 1/n * n [2,3]
    Therefore, n^0 = n/n = 1 (if n != 0) [4, 6]

Wow, you have some weird formatting module which tries to deal with exponentiation but doesn’t do it right.

Yeah, everything gets formatted in textile, including comments. Never thought to mention it. I edited your comment to work properly (I think) but the upshot is if you use a carat to start an exponent, you have to delimit it with a trailing carat.

I believe even 0**0 = 1 (I think that’s the FORTRAN exponentiation operator). Thats zero to the zeroth power equals one. Never proved it, but I think it can be done using factorials.

er, did you watch Furi Kuri dubbed or subbed? judging by “Fooly Cooly” i would think dubbed… which might explain the not-seeing of genius.

  6. pts Says:

Subbed. That was the “official” English title, so I assumed that’s what it was called here.

  7. T. Gold Says:

sad. well, i guess it’s not for everyone. you tried. :]

  8. pts Says:

I may try again, but it just seemed like random self-indulgent wackiness to me. What did you like about it?

  9. T. Gold Says:

it somewhat shames me to say this, but i haven’t rewatched it in at least two years. from what i recall, i liked the art a lot, and how the dialogue and action gave the characters a lot of depth (for me) while remaining fairly simple. might be time for me to watch it again!
