Welcome to Midaregami

In a move of staggering hubris that borders on the insulting, I co-opted the title of Yosano Akiko's seminal collection of Tanka poetry for my personal webpage.

ただの大学院生の僕にふさわしくないだろうが、与謝野晶子の名作「みだれ髪」に感動され、midaregami.netと言うドメインネームを選びました。

Akiko, please forgive me.

晶子さま、どうかお許しを。

このホームぺージのほとんどのコンテントは、weblogに書かれています。ギャレリーもありますが、多くのお客様はこんなつまらないものに興味がないかもしれませんが、リンクは左の方にあります。

I chose the domain name "Midaregami," because I find the image of tangled, confused hair to be uniquely well-suited to describing our own internet. Surely it is a confused tangle if ever there was one! When I first read Yosano Akiko's poetry, it left a deep impression on me, and when it came time to name my site, the decision was not difficult. As a citizen of this network, I often feel a certain degree of confusion, and again, the metaphor of tangled hair for my tangled thoughts is not inappropriate.

なぜ「乱れ髪」かと言うと、それはインターネットの乱れたネットワークにふさわしい名前ではないかと思って、付けました。はじめて与謝野晶子の短歌を（英訳で）読んでから、ずっと印象が残っていました。僕はそう言う混乱してとまどっているイメージがとても好きです。自分がよくそのなにすればいいか分からない気持ちを感じます。人間はみんなもそうだろう。
